TCN CRAFT CHALLENGE ~ Book Inspired Crafts~ Please Vote!

12 Jul

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT VOTED, THE WINNER & THE RUNNERS UP WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT 9PM (13th July)

Welcome to The Crafty Network Blog Craft Challenge.  We are now asking for people to VOTE for their favourite entry from the selection of entries below, to enable us to declare a Winner and 2 Runners Up of this challenge on Friday evening.

(Not sure what this is all about, then please visit: https://thecraftynetwork.wordpress.com/gallery/wednesday-mini-challenge-rules/ ) and see details about the theme for this challenge in the previous post.

I think this would have been one of my favourite challenges if I was allowed to enter, as I love books.  I’m also really surprised that there is no jewellery entered this week and no cards!  I was expecting to see at least one Fifty Shades bracelet or Twilight piece or even an Alice in Wonderland themed piece, but alas no, you jewellery makers and card makers are very shy!  Anyway, THANK YOU and well done to everyone who has entered this week.  16 talented people rose to this weeks challenge and as always I love how they have interpreted the theme.  Information about the Book or book theme which inspired each of their creations can be found below the photos.  All they need now is your support by voting for your favourite and it is never easy!

THE VOTING!

In order to declare a WINNER of this Competition, we need YOU our lovely Followers to comment below this post quoting the No. of the photo you like best.  For those of you who are undecided, you can vote for more than one, but limit it to choosing just 3 and please make it clear which is your first, second and third choice.

ie. No. 1 = 3pts (1st choice),   No. 2 = 2pts (2nd choice), No. 6 = 1pt (3rd choice).

If you pick just one, this will count as 3 points.

You can also send in your votes via email if you wish to:  thecraftynetwork@gmail.com

(Please Note:  The Crafty Network, will not use or retain your email addresses for any marketing purposes and once the vote has been counted, your emails will be deleted).

*************************************************************************************************************************

The voting will close at 8PM on FRIDAY and the winner with the most points will be announced at 9PM, along with the 2 runners-up.

*************************************************************************************************************************

Thank you & Good luck with your choices, as always this is a really hard decision.

Please click on the first photo and this will take you to a bigger view of the photos.  (Sometimes this can take a little while to load, sorry!)  Also, below the photos are the pages links and the inspiration behind each entry.

LINKS TO ALL THE ENTRIES:

1.  AngelK: www.angelk.co.uk

These are part of my 50 shades collection – a homage to 50 shades of grey.

Ties transformed into roses and decorated with feathers and crystals and pearls (with a cheeky spanking charm) wrapped in a tulle bow. Very decadent and sexy!!

2.       Cross Stitch Creations:https://www.facebook.com/CrossStitchCreations

‘Laters, baby’ cushion into the competition, obviously inspired by the book that everyone’s talking about at the moment, Fifty Shades of Grey!

3.       Woolrush:  http://www.woolrush.weebly.com

Entitled ‘Wildwood’ it is a cushion in Freeform – a mixture of knitting, crochet and embroidery techniques, in many different yarns. It was inspired by a book called ‘The Wildwood’ – essentially a book of photographs of the ancient forests of Britain, accompanied by histories of the various areas.

4.       JoJo’s Makes & Bakes: https://www.facebook.com/TheCraftyNetwork#!/pages/JoJos-Makes-Bakes/173065986127985

“Chocolate Box” cake which I made for my niece’s birthday.

My daughter was very keen on Cathy Cassidy’s range of books titled “THE CHOCOLATE BOX GIRLS”……  These books are suitable for girls aged 12 – 14/15, and is based around characters with scrumptious names such as Coco Caramel, Summer’s Dream’s, Sundae Girl, Ginger Snaps Angel Cake, Cherry Crush Dreams, Sweey Honey and Marshmallow Skye.

Please find attached a picture of the cake, made completely from chocolate. I also made the pink chocolates inside it. The sides and lid are solid chocolate too, and all around the side are petite fours filled with melted chocolate.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Very rich but definitely a “Chocolate Box”!

5.     Louisa Kemp-Arts: https://www.facebook.com/pages/louisa-kemp-arts/267917239864

‘Mini people bowl’ by Wendy Kemp- inspired by her love of gingerbread men! (from the classic book- the gingerbread man)

Wendy kemp is a partner in Louisa kemp arts

6.       V’s Pottery Shed: www.facebook.com/vspotteryshed

I think you can guess which book gave me the inspiration for these?  Fifty Shades of Grey.

7.        Rosewood Crafts: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rosewood-Crafts/204064066273259

The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton

I have spent a lot of time at fairs talking with children about what they think the fairy  is doing and what they will find once they enter the wood.

8.       Eirawen:  www.eirawen.com  Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/EirawenHandmade  Folksy: http://folksy.com/shops/Eirawen   Etsy:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/EirawenHandmade

This stunning Wreath Wall Art was made from pre-loved books, for a friend who owns a book store. She loved it so much that I made another 6 for other friends for Christmas from books that either reminded me of them or ones i know they liked

I now take commissions for these lovely creations, and love searching for the books requested and creating them, as with flower and snowflakes no 2 have turned out the same.

10.   Mammakaz: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mammakaz/301844323198425

A Kindle Cover, covered with many classic authors of some of my favourite books.

11.The Peartree Boutique:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.340268826030640.80662.127335090657349&type=3

Attached is my entry for the mini challenge – An Angle Shades Caterpillar bookmark.

12.   Handcrafted by Picto: https://www.facebook.com/HandcraftedbyPicto

http://handcraftedbypicto.blogspot.co.uk/

Ok so it a bit of a tenuous link but as it’s so popular at the moment I thought this matched in with the book ’50 Shades of Grey’
This canvas is painted in Black and White (with every shade of grey in between) except for the centre of the daisies which are yellow.
It is a small canvas, measuring only 7″ x 5″

13.   Lynsey Loves:  Email: lynsey@lynseylovesxxx.co.uk  Web: www.lynseyloves.co.uk

As much as I am too enjoying the Grey trilogy, I decided to go for my all time  childhood favourite this week “Charlotte’s Web”, the opening lines :-

Chapter I Before Breakfast

“Where’s Papa going with that axe?” said Fern to her mother as they were setting the table for breakfast.

“Out to the hoghouse,” replied Mrs. Arable. “Some pigs were born last night.”

“I don’t see why he needs an axe,” continued Fern, who was only eight.

“Well,” said her mother, “One of the pigs is a runt. It’s very small and weak, and it will never amount to anything. So your father has decided to do away with it.”

These words must be one of the most chilling opening lines to any Children’s book.

As a child I was entranced by this book, a real happy / sad  / friendship  / all round book, I have recently passed my copy down to my children who I will hope enjoy it just as much..

My item for this challenge another cushion.

14.  Yowe:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Yowe/135502869895054

Here is my entry for this week’s challenge… a crocheted necklace based on The Tale of Johnny Town Mouse – Beatrix Potter.

15.  Made by Adele: www.folksy.com/MadebyAdele

I kind of interpreted your theme a little and have sent you a picture of what i do to give an un-loved books a new life. All these items Love Book, Paper apple and flowers are made out of two old books that were a bit battered and unloved.

16. Denare Design: http://www.facebook.com/DenareDesign

Entry is Pride and Prejudice book bag – a handbag made from a gorgeous vintage hardback book.  Books are salvaged books that have been thrown away or scrapped and needing a second lease of life.
