The Crafty Network ~ 17th October Craft Challenge ~ A Halloween Craft-fest

12 Oct

From ghoulies and ghosties and long leggety beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!

Welcome to this weeks ‘Spooky’ Halloween Craft Challenge. ‘A Halloween Craft-fest’.  Where I am looking to see entries of all types of crafts that are influenced by Halloween; Scary, Creepy, Beastly, Gothic, Trick or Treat whatever you decide and your crafts can even be colours associated with Halloween (ie. Orange, black, purple, red etc).

Over the last month or so I have seen many people posting pictures of their fantastic Halloween themed crafts on the TCN Facebook wall, so I am hoping I get lots of entries this week, no excuses!!!

“It’s Halloween, everyone’s entitled to one good scare.”

Halloween (1978)

A Few Halloween Facts:

Halloween celebrated around the world on the 31st October, is actually a shortened version of “All Hallows’ Even (Evening),” the eve of All Hallows’ Day. “Hallow” is an Old English word for “holy person,” and All Hallows’ Day is simply another name for All Saints’ Day, the day Catholics commemorate all the saints. At some point, people began referring to All Hallows’ Even as “Hallowe’en” and then simply “Halloween.”

All Hallows Eve used to incorporate traditions of pagan harvest festivals and festivals honouring the dead.  Typically now Children and Adults celebrate it by dressing up, carving pumpkins (Jack O Lanterns) (when I was young it was a turnip!), telling scary stories and the children playing Trick or Treat.

The witches fly
Across the sky,
The owls go, “Who? Who? Who?”
The black cats yowl
And green ghosts howl,
“Scary Halloween to you!”
