TCN CRAFT CHALLENGE ~ Sun, Sea & Sand~ Please Vote!

26 Jul

Welcome to The Crafty Network Blog Craft Challenge.  We are now asking for people to VOTE for their favourite entry from the selection of entries below, to enable us to declare a Winner and 2 Runners Up of this challenge on Friday evening.

(Not sure what this is all about, then please visit: Challenge Rules and see details about the theme for this challenge in the previous post.)

Thank you to everyone who has entered this our last challenge before we take a short break for the summer holidays.  As always I love seeing how everyone interprets the theme in so many different ways and I’m also pleased to see more jewellery entries this week. 19 very talented people have risen to this challenge and I would like to say welcome to all those who have entered for the first time. All they need now is your support by taking on the difficult task of voting for your favourite!

In order to declare a WINNER of this Competition, we need YOU our lovely Followers to comment below this post quoting the No. of the photo you like best.  For those of you who are undecided, you can vote for more than one, but limit it to choosing just 3 and please make it clear which is your first, second and third choice.

ie. No. 1 = 3pts (1st choice),   No. 2 = 2pts (2nd choice), No. 6 = 1pt (3rd choice).

If you pick just one, this will count as 3 points.

You can also send in your votes via email if you wish to:

(Please Note:  The Crafty Network, will not use or retain your email addresses for any marketing purposes and once the vote has been counted, your emails will be deleted).

The voting will close at 8PM on FRIDAY and the winner with the most points will be announced at 9PM, along with the 2 runners-up.

Thank you & Good luck with your choices, as always this is a really hard decision.

Please click on the first photo and this will take you to a bigger view of the photos.  (Sometimes this can take a little while to load, sorry!)  Also, below the photos are the pages links and the inspiration behind each entry.

I call these earrings ‘Flotsam’ as the colours make me think of seaweed in the shallows as the tide goes out.

Seaside Cushion with contrasting stripey fabric and jumbo ricrac.  The stripey fabric is on the reverse and it closes with an envelope flap and two self-covered buttons in the seaside fabric with an appliqued heart on, so it is reversible.

There is a seaside coin purse with bunting on the reverse and the words “tiddly om pom pom” free machine embroidered on.
Finally there is a fabric seaside card complete with bunting and heart which have been machine embroidered with the words Mum & 60 and Happy Birthday.

This is my summer tote “Shirley Tote”

SunRay style Tiara, which I made for the actress Fenella Fielding for an event in Liverpool!

Seaside Beach hut inspired card.

6.   WOOLRUSH: Website  Facebook

Decorative hanging panel ‘Sea Pictures’. Made in free form knit/crochet, it was inspired by the colours.textures and light effects on the sea. Incorporates beads, shells and stained glass.

This set is a freeform peyote bracelet embellished with beads and a shell to create a rockpool effect scene including little seasnails.  The matching earrings are little snails made with the same beads and a memory wire ring that reflects the colours in the bracelet.

My beach inspired jewellery, perfect to dress up your favourite bikini, wedges, sunnies and a floppy hat!

Beaded Bracelet.

10. YOWE: Facebook page is Website is

This hand knitted/felted bag is called “Beach Baby” and it is lined with a Hawiian Island fabric.

11.  POTTS OF LOVE: My facebook page is

These are my “Under the sea” wine glass charms made with Swarovski pearls.

Wallhanging is called Teignmouth Beach.  Photographs of the family, my grandchildren, have been transferred onto fabric and stitched into.  I have used indigo dyed fabric to bring together a composition of photos, a poem, little boats and seashells and driftwood.

13.  JO JO’s MAKES & BAKES:!/pages/JoJos-Makes-Bakes/173065986127985

VW camper van that I sewed for VW fanatic friends as a joint birthday pressie…….  Whenever I see one of these I just automatically think of people going on holiday, often to places like Devon for surfing…..hence the sun, sea and sand.

A summer dress for a baby.

Sunshine Sunflower Bowl. Perhaps it will help make the sun shine and rain disappear??This bowl is 30cm in diameter and 8cm in depth, with transparent and opaque yellow glass with a brown centre. There is a strong relief texture to the glass giving a very tactile piece.

This is my favourite nautical bunting – which reminds me of seaside holidays.

This is my handmade necklace for the sun, sea and sand challenge. It features a white gemstone donut pendant bead with yellow jade for the sand and the blue turquoise for the sea.  This necklace is currently for sale on my Etsy page, see above link.

A pint glass I painted. The sea goes all around the base of the glass.
Sums up our lovely camping and fishing holiday this year in Cornwall.

Here is a photo of a silk & merino wool scarf which I made. The colours were inspired by the sea, sand & sky on a sunny day!  Email :-

Wowsers! What a selection of goodies, yet again. It’s so unfair of you Linda to make us have to choose 🙂 I whinge about that every month I know but it’s so hard as I can appreciate the work gone into these items. As ever, choose I must.
    1st – Limegreenlizze No.12 – what a novel idea
2nd – Melting Pot No.15 – your glassware is stunning
3rd- Handmade by Edwina No.3 – really matches the theme of the challenge.

I know it sounds patronising but I really mean it – well done everyone and please don’t be disheartened if you don’t ‘win’. Hopefully it’ll gain you more business as your items are being displayed in more places
